Jalapeño Soft Pretzels
This is my absolute favorite mall snack and they’re so easy to make at home!
Servings: 8 pretzels
Ingredients:
- 2.5 cups white flour
- 2 tsp active dry yeast
- 1 cup warm water
- 1 ½ tsp sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 jalapeno, diced
- 1 tbsp baking soda
- 1 ½ cup hot water
- 2 tbsp melted butter
Directions:
- Mix warm water and active dry yeast in a large mixing bowl and let it rest for 5 minutes
- Add in flour, sugar, salt and garlic powder and mix using hook attachment in KitchenAid mixer (you can also mix by hand but it will just take longer)
- Once the dough is mixed, remove it and knead by hand for a few minutes
- Put dough back in the bowl and let sit for 30 minutes
- While dough is rising mix baking soda and hot water in a bowl
- Preheat oven to 450 degrees Fahrenheit
- Once dough has risen, remove the dough onto a clean surface (I oil my hands a bit to help get the sticky dough out)
- Cut into halves twice until you have 8 pieces
- Roll each piece of dough into a long rope and form into a pretzel shape
- Dip the pretzel into the baking soda water and then place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper
- Optional - add any toppings you’d like - I like to press diced jalapeño into the pretzels
- Repeat with all (8) pieces of dough
- Bake pretzels at 450 degrees for 11-12 minutes
- Optional - remove the pretzels after 7-8 minutes and sprinkle shredded cheese on top and place back in the oven for 2-3 minutes
- Remove from the oven and brush the pretzels with melted butter (or vegan butter)
- Serve warm and enjoy!
