Jalapeño Soft Pretzels
This is my absolute favorite mall snack and they’re so easy to make at home!
Servings: 8 pretzels
Ingredients:
2.5 cups white flour
2 tsp active dry yeast
1 cup warm water
1 ½ tsp sugar
1 tsp salt
1 tsp garlic powder
1 jalapeno, diced
1 tbsp baking soda
1 ½ cup hot water
2 tbsp melted butter
Directions:
Mix warm water and active dry yeast in a large mixing bowl and let it rest for 5 minutes
Add in flour, sugar, salt and garlic powder and mix using hook attachment in KitchenAid mixer (you can also mix by hand but it will just take longer)
Once the dough is mixed, remove it and knead by hand for a few minutes
Put dough back in the bowl and let sit for 30 minutes
While dough is rising mix baking soda and hot water in a bowl
Preheat oven to 450 degrees Fahrenheit
Once dough has risen, remove the dough onto a clean surface (I oil my hands a bit to help get the sticky dough out)
Cut into halves twice until you have 8 pieces
Roll each piece of dough into a long rope and form into a pretzel shape
Dip the pretzel into the baking soda water and then place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper
Optional - add any toppings you’d like - I like to press diced jalapeño into the pretzels
Repeat with all (8) pieces of dough
Bake pretzels at 450 degrees for 11-12 minutes
Optional - remove the pretzels after 7-8 minutes and sprinkle shredded cheese on top and place back in the oven for 2-3 minutes
Remove from the oven and brush the pretzels with melted butter (or vegan butter)
Serve warm and enjoy!
