Orange Sauce
If you’ve been to the Bay Area you probably know about La Vic’s orange sauce. I LOVE this sauce but at $15/bottle I just can’t justify buying it anymore. So if you, like me, also like your orange sauce with a side of Mexican food, give this homemade version a try!
Servings: 24 oz.
Ingredients:
2 roma tomatoes, roughly chopped
1 onion, roughly chopped
35 dried red chilies
4 dried guajillo chilies
1 tbsp minced garlic
1½ tsp salt
1 tsp chili powder
⅓ cup apple cider vinegar
1 cup + 2 tbsp neutral oil
1 ½ cup water
Directions:
Heat a pan on medium heat and add oil
Add tomatoes, onion and garlic and cook down for 5-6 minutes
Add dried chilies, salt, chili powder, apple cider vinegar and oil and let cook for another 2-3 minutes
Ensure chilies puff up from the oil but make sure they don’t burn
Add water and mix together
Transfer everything to a blender and blend until sauce is smooth
Let cool and pour into a container or squeeze bottle
Enjoy!
